The Dolpo region is one of the finest underrated places that is highly rich with nature. Though it is a remote region of Nepal, we can’t compare its beauty with other popular regions. The scenic Himalayas view, hidden valleys, and ancient shrines like Shey Gompa are key components of this region.

During the trek in Dolpo, tourists can enjoy fascinating views of the pristine waters of Phoksundo Lake. Tourists can be Encountering yak caravans that cross the high-Himalayan passes.

Dolpo region is a high altitude and culturally Tibetan region in the upper part of the Dolpo district of western, Nepal. Phoksundo and Mugu Karnali valley lie in the northwest and the sixth highest mountain in the world Mt. Dhaulagiri (8172mtr.) lies in the southwest of this region.

Shimmering turquoise waters of Lake Phoksundo never fails to fascinate visitors. Settlements of Dolpo are ranges at altitudes of 3,660 m to 4,070 m range. And most of the people of this area are devout Buddhists who have been following Tibet. One of the highlighted things is there are 130 Gompas (Buddhist monasteries) and 90% of the area is above 3500mtr  in Dolpo Zone.

Isolated by the difficult topography, the people in the Dolpo region have preserved their culture and lifestyle untouched by the trappings of modern society. Agriculture, Animal husbandry, and some local trade are the main income sources of Dolpo peoples.

According to the population sensation of Nepal, more than 90% of the population under the poverty line and literacy rate of the Dolpo district is 54%.  Around 500o people are living in Dolpo, Nepal. Agriculture, Animal husbandry, and some local trade are the main income sources of Dolpo peoples.

In 1989, DOLPO was opened for tourism where before it was unexplored and unseen by outsiders visitors.  Since Dolpo is one of the Restricted Areas of Nepal, we should have a rusticated area Trekking Permit. We can get Dolpo permits from the Department of Immigration of Nepal if you’ve 2 pax.
