FAQs

How to Get there and away?

Getting there is the same as trekking to Everest Base Camp. Because the first part of the trek follows the same as EBC(up to Namche). So to get to the starting point of this trail, the most common way is to fly to Lukla(a small Himalayas airport). It lasts 30 to 35 minutes from Kathmandu-Lukla but offers an amazing experience. However, since it is a mountain airport, based weather frequently closes the airport. We strongly recommended travelers to prepare for delays(extra 1-2 days) if KTM – Lukla and Lukla – KTM.

When is the best time to visit? (Best Season)

Spring and Autumn
As with most treks in Nepal, the best time to explore Gokyo are September – November(Autumn) and March-May(Spring).

Should I have hiking experience to go trekking Gokyo Ri?

Since Trekking to Gokyo is high-altitude Himalayas trekking, your body should decently fit. 5 to 6 hours each day are required to walk. So you should do some cardio exercise some months before the trek.

Is drinking water available on the trek?

Sure, you’ll get safe drinking water during the trek by paying 2 to 3 dollars( depends on altitudes). However, if you bring a water bottle and water purification tablet, you’ll save money as well as nature too. Because you’ll get free water at the hotel so that you can fill your bottle. Beyond that, you can make drinkable water by putting a tablet.

What is the standard of accommodation on the trek?

Likewise, EBC trek, accommodation on Gokyo Trek is tea houses. In these teahouses, you’ll get a shared room, basic amenities, Internet/WIFI, and food. The beds on the teahouse are usually comfortable and clean.

Is there any possibility of Acute Mountain Sickness?

Gokyo Ri Trek starts from 2800m and goes up to 5357m. It shows it is high-altitude trekking. And AMS is generally shown above the elevation of 3200m. So to be safe from AMS, you should drink plenty of water, and soup, and keep your body warm.

Do I need travel insurance for the Trek?

It’s required. As it is high-altitude trekking, nobody knows what will happen to you during the trek. So to be safe from uncertain things, travel insurance is required to have. You should have travel insurance that covers Helicopter evacuation, medical expenses, accidents, and natural disasters.

    We did trekking to Gokyo Lake with Guide Kamal from Company Base Camp Hike. It was a wonderful trip where we saw amazing lakes with crystal-clear water. We climbed Gokyo Ri early in the morning and enjoyed with sunrise and views of Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and other snow-capped mountains.
