Gokyo Lakes trek is a well-known route in the Everest region. An alternate trek to the Everest Base Camp, which provides stunning views of four of the highest mountains in the world. They are Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,481m), and Cho Oyu (8153m).

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Fly to Lukla (2,800m/9,184ft) and Trek to Phakding (2,652m/8,700ft)
Enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayas on a flight to Lukla. KTM to Lukla is one of the most adventurous flights rated by high authoritative websites and travel magazines as well. The KTM to Lukla flight takes approx 35 minutes. Attempt to get your seat on the left side of the plane while confirming your ticket at TIA airport.
After landing in Lukla, we’ll move towards Phakding. Phakding is located at an altitude of 2,652 meters.
We’ll trek downhill for approximately four hours by following the very beautiful Dudh Koshi River to get Phakding. Stay overnight at Phakding.
Day 2: Phakding to Namche Bazar (3,440m/11,283ft)
On this day, We’ll stroll to the trek mostly uphill to Namche Bazaar by crossing the several teahouses on the way. We will also cross several suspension bridges with the stunning views of the Himalayas. As you reach the Namche Bazaar, you can interact with the Sherpa People and get involved with their unique culture and traditions. Stay overnight at Namche Bazaar.
On this day, you’ll hike through the wonderful trails up to Namche Bazar. The Namche is the most popular village in the Everest region(Khumbu). Compared to 1 Lukla to Phakding, Phakding to Namche Bazaar is difficult. The reason is on the way, there are many ascents.
During the hike, you’ll cross the small villages such as Monjo and Jhorsale. You’ll also use the Hilary suspension bridge on this day.
After the tough ascent before Namche, you will reach Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche town.
Day 3 Acclimatization Day in Namche bazaar – Hike to Everest View Hotel
3rd day in Gokyo, we’ll acclimatize at Namche. For that, we’ll hike to nearby places which are higher than Namche Bazaar. Our guide leads you to different places from Namche. For example Everest View Hotel Hike, such as Khumjung and Khunde hike, Thame Hike. The Everest View Hotel is the highest placed hotel. You can take breakfast together with amazing mountain views.
Day – 4 Trek to Dole (4,200m/ 13,780ft)
On the 4th day, we’ll trek on Dole following the beautiful forests where most of the trees are Pine and Rhododendron. This day you will also cross the Tengboche Village where you can see the Monastery. Six hours hike from Namche, you’ll reach Dhole where you’re going to stay for the 4th of trekking. Accommodation at Dole.
Day – 5 Trek to Machhermo (4,470m/ 14,663ft)
5th day, the trekking from Dole to Machhermo is much comfortable and it’s also a short hike. On this day, you’ll see stunning views of Mt. Cho Oyu, Thamserku, Kungtenga, Tawache, and many more peaks on the way to Machhermo. Around 4 hours hiking from Dole, you’ll reach Machhermo. Day 5th night at Machhermo.
Day – 6 Machhermo to Gokyo (4,800m/15,744ft)
Today we will move towards Gokyo Lake, which is situated at the elevation of the 4750m height from sea level. On the way to Gokyo, you’ll see magic Himalayan vistas. During the day, you can explore around Ngozumpa Glacier and Gokyo lakes. Stay 6th night at Gokyo.
Day – 7 Gokyo Valley: Acclimatization Day
On this day, we’ll explore around Gokyo Lakes. You will explore the fifth Lake and fourth Lake with the stunning views of Mt. Everest(8,848m) and Cho-Oyu. This day you can also explore the biggest glacier in the world namely Ngozumpa.
Day – 8 Hike to Gokyo RI (5360m) and trek down to Dole(4110m.)4 hrs.
Today is the most exciting day of this Gokyo trek. We’ll start to hike in the early morning passing the streams then climb steep up 2 hrs to summit Gokyo Ri( Gokyo Peak).
During climbing up to the Peak, the trail provides eye-catching views of the Himalayas as well as the largest Nagzumba glacier.
From Gokyo Ri, we can see a wonderful sunrise view over the tallest peak such as Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse, and numerous other peaks. You can also see the beautiful Gokyo valley scenery from the Ri. That’s why Gokyo Ri is rewarded as best viewpoints treks in Nepal. After Ri, we’ll come back to Dole for overnight at stay.
Day – 9 Trek from Dole to Namche Bazaar(3440m.)5 hrs
This day, we’ll walk through non-forested areas to forest areas. We’ll climb Mong danda and from there we’ll again descend to Namche Bazaar. Stay overnight on day 9 at Namche.
Day – 10 Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla 2,860m 8 – 9 hours.
Today, we will walk more than other days because it takes 8 to 9 hours to reach Lukla from Namche. We’ll descend down through pine forest to Lukla. You can celebrate your last day Gokyo Trip.
Day – 11 Lukla to Kathmandu
On the 11th day, you’ll have a scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Enjoy your 11th day of GLT trek at Thamel.

Should I have to go trekking in Gokyo Ri?
Since Trekking to Gokyo is high altitude himalayas trekking, your body should decently fit. 5 to 6 hours each day required to walk. So you should do some cardio exercise some months prior to the trek.
Is drinking water available on the trek?
Sure, you’ll get safe drinking water during the trek by paying 2 to 3 dollars( depends on altitudes). However if you bring a water bottle and water purification tablet, you’ll save money as well as nature too. Because you’ll get free-water at the hotel so that you can fill your bottle. Beyond that you can make drinkable water by putting a tablet.
What is the standard of the accommodation on the trek?
Likewise EBC trek, accommodation on Gokyo Trek is tea houses. On these teahouses, you’ll get shared room, basic amenities, Internet/WIFI, and food.The beds on the teahouse are usually comfortable and clean.
Do I need travel insurance for the Trek?
Sure, it’s required. As it is high altitude trekking, nobody knows what will happen to you during the trek. So to be safe from uncertain things, travel insurance is required to have. You should have travel insurance that covers Helicopter evacuation, medical expenses, accidents, and natural disasters.
Is there any possibility of Acute Mountain Sickness?
Gokyo Ri Trek starts from 2800m and goes up to 5357m. It shows it is high altitude trekking. And AMS is generally shown above the elevation of 3200m. So to be safe from AMS, you should drink plenty of water, soup, and keep your body warm.
