Thangsyap to Kyanjin Gompa

Today marks Day 3 of our Langtang Valley Trek. On this day, we will begin our trek from Thangsyap to Kyanjin Gompa. After a peaceful night in Thangsyap, Day 3 is all about rewards. This is a shorter trekking day compared to trek from Sherpagaun to Thangsyap. About 4 to 5 hours walk from Thangsyap, we will reach Kyanjin Gompa by lunchtime. This itinerary allows your body time to adjust to the 3,830m altitude before tackling larger peaks like Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri the following day.

Upon checking into our hotel in Kyanjin Gompa, we will enjoy delicious meals accompanied by stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

What to expect on the section from Thangsyap to Kyanjin Gompa?

The trail from Thangsyap to Kyanjin Gompa feels like entering a different world. The valley widens significantly, and the tree line disappears. Along the way, we can see yaks grazing in the meadows and the towering presence of Langtang Lirung, Ganjala Peak, and many other mountains. After a 4 to 5-hour walk, we will arrive in Kyanjin Gompa, passing through the rebuilt “New Langtang Village” and Mundu, followed by the longest Mani walls (prayer stone walls) in the region.

Why Thangsyap to Kyanjin Gompa?

Clouds often roll into the valley by 12:00 PM. Arriving early ensures you see the peaks in the crystal-clear morning light. After lunch, we can hike to a nearby viewpoint and visit the Kyanjin Cheese Factory, which was established with Swiss assistance in 1955. In the evening, if the weather allows, we can hike a nearby hill for sunset views.
